Profiles and Testimonials
There are probably as many motivations for volunteering for the Kauffman Center as there are Ambassadors. Here are a few of their stories.
The shared interests of two favorite causes blended together nicely for Ambassador Kathy Lindsey and 70 colleagues on Saturday morning, May 12, 2007. "When Ambassadors were asked to spread the word about the Kauffman Center," Kathy said, "I knew immediately that I wanted to share this story with my P.E.O. sisters. There is so much synergy between P.E.O. goals and those of the Kauffman Center, I knew it was a perfect match." P.E.O. (Philanthropic Education Organization) is one of the pioneer societies for women, founded in 1869.
Ambassador Kathy Peterson (left in the photo) was one of the first Ambassadors to sign on and her first big assignment was to coordinate volunteer assignments at the Groundbreaking on October 6, 2006. She's a go-to person for every type of volunteer activity, from addressing invitations in her perfect wedding-caliber calligraphy to making community presentations to local groups, to serving as a greeter for donor events. "I enjoy being a part of the Kauffman legacy and what that means to Kansas City's future," Kathy shares. In this photo she is acting as host along with Ambassador Adrienne Russell at an event that two other Ambassadors hosted at the Frazier Gallery at 31st and Troost.
Candis Crane (at left in photo) has been a regular volunteer at First Friday exhibits of our architectural model at the Arts Incubator. This includes one evening when she swears it was 200 degrees outside where she was working to coach people inside to visit our exhibit. Candis has also worked shifts at the Plaza Art Fair booth and served as a host at donor events like the one shown in the photo to the left. Candis says, "I enjoy the opportunity to be an Ambassador because it gives me an official outlet for my excitement about downtown's development." In this photo, Candis greets guests at an event along with Jack Barkley and Ambassador Ellen Vap.
